Congressional Fishing Tournament Highlights Fisheries Conservation Through Friendly Competition

On Monday, May 20, CSF's 5th Annual Congressional Fishing Competition brought together industry partners and Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus staff to celebrate sportsmen and women’s vast conservation contributions and to also help attendees stay informed on issues that are important to protect the nation’s aquatic resources and angler access.

 

Chronic Wasting Disease Detected in California Deer

CWD is a slow and progressive neurological disease occurring in free ranging and farmed cervid species that is always fatal and has been detected in many areas where it was not historically identified in recent years. On May 7, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife issued a news bulletin stating that the first confirmed case of CWD in California was discovered after samples collected from two deer were tested.

CSF Supports Land Conservation Legislation in North Carolina

With North Carolina being one of the most rapidly growing states in the country, it is increasingly important to support landowners interested in conserving their property. North Carolina’s private lands provide important access for hunting and fishing, but as properties are developed, wildlife habitat and hunting and fishing access is often lost.

 

The Fight Continues: Bill to Ban Hunting Contests Revived After Missing Deadline

IL HB 2900 would prohibit Illinois hunters from organizing and participating in furbearer hunting tournaments. Despite successful efforts by CSF that contributed to IL HB 2900 missing its initial deadline to advance from the House of Representatives, a special Rules Committee vote was held last week (nearly a month later) to extend that deadline.
